Delta Air Lines has expanded its presence at Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) with the opening of 13 additional gates on Concourse A, which is part of the second phase of the airport’s “The New SLC” project.

The airport has completed the construction of its 900,000-square-foot facility that opened in September 2020. Over the past three years, Delta has made significant progress and now has 50 operational gates at the Crossroads of the West.

Concourse A’s eastern section comprises 22 gates, of which nine were added recently in the summer. A new Delta help center has also been built on Concourse A to assist travelers. Moreover, the expansion features 19 new restaurants and shops, which are strategically placed to enhance the overall passenger experience.

“These new gates and amenities will further elevate the guest experience at the Salt Lake City International Airport for Salt Lakers and visitors from all over the world,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall.

“Salt Lake City is proud to be a Delta hub in the West and home to one of the top-performing airports in the world. The completion of this expansion will provide efficient services and modern facilities for travelers who are eager for a seamless journey.”

All Delta flights operating from Concourse A will now board and alight via jet bridges, eliminating the need for shuttle busses.

An important hub for Delta

Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is a key hub for Delta Airlines, with 237 daily flights catering to nearly 30,000 customers at its peak during the fall of 2023 – more than all the other airlines combined.

Delta has invested close to $12 billion over the past decade to enhance the airport experience for its customers, making travel seamless and comfortable.

“The completion of Concourse A comes just ahead of what we anticipate will be a busy holiday and ski travel season,” said Adam Ryan, Managing Director of Delta’s SLC Operations.

“It’s a privilege for the 5,400 Delta employees here in Salt Lake City to share this state-of-the-art facility with our customers as we continue to provide them with the elevated experience they have come to expect from Delta.”

Delta signed a 19-year lease agreement worth $2.8 billion with Salt Lake City at the beginning of 2023. The agreement ensures Delta’s long-term presence in the Crossroads of the West, which will benefit passengers with a seamless travel experience and the local and state economy through job creation.

In June of this year, Delta began the construction of a state-of-the-art pilot training facility, demonstrating its commitment to Salt Lake City.

“We’re so grateful to have Delta as a decades-long partner,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall earlier this year.

“Their commitment to Salt Lake City and the 5,000 employees who live here is evident every time we break ground or open a new project. These exciting investments in our capital city will make it easier for many who live here to see the world while creating world-class facilities they can be proud of when they return.”
